11 May Floss Like a Boss
Brushing alone only does half the job. Flossing is your first line of defence against holes from forming on the sides of your teeth and also makes sure your gums stay healthy. Gum disease that is left untreated can have dire consequences including tooth loss!
If you haven’t flossed in a while, the first thing you will notice is the amount of plaque that comes out when you floss. This is bacteria that has been left to accumulate in between your teeth for more time than you can probably remember!
The other thing you will notice is that your gums may start to bleed. Generally, gums bleed after flossing because they are inflamed. The gums inflame in an attempt to fight off the bacteria that has been left to grow in between your teeth. Make sure all that bacteria is removed for not only healthier teeth, but healthy and happy gums too!
Many of our patients tell us that flossing is too difficult and fiddly. Thankfully, there are other ways!
Flossets
These work the same way as regular floss but have the benefit of a handle to make it easier to maneuver around the mouth.
Interdental brushes
These work on the simple design of a toothbrush but are much smaller to reach in between your teeth.
Once you get into a routine, flossing will not take more than 2-3 minutes on top of your regular
brushing routine. It is all a matter of forming good habits. A cleaner mouth also equates to a clearer mind so for the time you spend looking after your teeth, you have made the rest of your day more productive and efficient.
